Something for Anita: Passing along the Love

In memory of Anita Manalansan-Alvano, April 16, 1943 - February 8, 2011.

Carlos Alvano, an engineer by profession, was married to Anita Sampang Manalansan. Both are successful in their respective fields in the United States, and have stayed abroad with their children Albert, Bernard and Carl. Certainly, they had their ups and downs, but the couple were soul mates and bestfriends. Though love did not wish to flee quickly, tragedy struck. It was a great blow to Carlos upon learning that his beloved wife was diagnosed with cancer. Their once lovely and wonderful life turned into a life-altering realization. Family, friends, and colleagues supported them and remained on their side, but despite proper attention, Anita soon left the loving arms of her family.

Feed the Hungry, Inc. prepares for rehabilitation projects in CDO, Iligan

Note: The following account was written by Ms. Evangeline Ganuelas, Executive Director of Feed the Hungry, Inc., after a fact-finding mission to Cagayan de Oro City, to assess how the organization can help in the rehabilitation efforts after parts of the city was ravaged by typhoon Sendong late last year.

Activities:
Visit to Ground Zero as they now refer to Cala-Cala ground in Macasandig, CDO, an area of river settlers that was the hardest hit by Sendong.
Meeting with all four contacts
Two hour trip to Iligan City and visit to Bayug Island, one of the most devastated of Iligan City's villages.
Visit to sites where homes will be built for Sendong victims
Findings:
The Archdiocese of CDO is actively pursuing steps to resettle Sendong victims in permanent homes, in the absence of any move from local government towards this end.  The BCBP, aside from being a major funding donor for projects, is assisting in this endeavor.  They have received donations of land and commitments from President Aquino, VP Binay, Dick Gordon, Habitat, and Gawad Kalinga to build a total of about 13,000 homes.  Msgr. Boy Salvador presented three immediate projects in which FtH can participate:
