Kalayaan Barangay Projects
The Armed Forces of the Philippines-Kalayaan Barangay Project is positioned to transform conflict affected communities into areas of Peace and Development. The AFP-Department of National Defense (DND) and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) have identified projects and beneficiary barangays under the AFP-KBP. These include infrastructure and livelihood projects.
• Farm to market roads
• School buildings and classrooms
• Level II water system facilities
• Electrification programs
• Medical and health centers
• Small-scale enterprises
The NADESCOM (National Development Support Command) has been tasked to coordinate with government agencies, NGO partners and donors. It has an operational command authority over five (5) engineering brigades, one (1) aviation engineer group, one (1) naval mobile construction batallion, and one (1) civil relations group. To-date, 905 beneficiary barangays and 1,200 projects have been identified and readied for implementation. Additional funding from the overseas Filipino donor community will significantly boost the NADESCOM resources in these pacified areas that are now geared for development.
